What's in Your Pot of Gold?

Tags: ,

Ahh March, what a beautiful month with its blustery winds and sometimes balmy days, promising us that we can soon put the winter clothes to bed. March blows in like a lion but soon wears her emerald green colors and shamrocks. She shows us visions of leprechauns and pots of gold, just over the rainbow. Oh, the excitement of the wearing of the green, St. Patrick’s Day, and flying kites. Something about March causes a stirring in the chest.

While filing some papers last night I ran across a pot of gold that my son had drawn in grade school one long-ago March. The pot was filled with golden coins. On the pot was a place where the students evidently were to write a message about why they were rich. This was the message written on his pot of gold:

“I’m rich because I have good friends, a family who cares about me and loves me, and I have good health. My mom gives me money for piano lessons, for camping with the Boy Scoutts and for running in races. My Step-dad is the one that trains me for the races. You don’t need money or material things to be rich. You just need someone to love you.”

Wow, what a message…”a family who cares about me and loves me…you just need someone to love you.” Last week I visited my granddaughter’s school. I was reading one of the bulletin boards where the first graders had written on their individual shamrocks why they felt lucky. Among all the cute responses I was drawn to the one which said, “I feel lucky when my Mommy and Daddy are happy with each other.”

What causes the stirring in our chest? Interesting that love has been measured as the highest vibrating energy. We can have all the material things in the world, but when we peel down to the core, what we really want is love…someone to love and care about us. How deeply we cherish that gift…as reflected out of the mouths of babes. A little time, a little attention, laughter, the caring acts that speak so loudly “I love you.”

Interesting too that the color of the heart chakra is emerald green. March is so invigorating – new life, new beginnings. Go out and hug a child, your significant other, or a complete stranger today, for each wants the love you have to give. Send love with your eyes and your smile to everyone who catches your glace, for the pot of gold you give will come back to you multiplied.
