The past four days in Chicago have been amazingly eye opening. Some of the experiences I have witnessed remind me of the behavior of caged, rabied rats. A flood of scenarios washed over me this morning as I read Dr. Mercola’s recent interview with Bruce Lipton.

Cellular biologist Bruce Lipton, PhD., is one of the leading authorities on how emotions can regulate genetic expression. In other words, your thoughts and beliefs hold more significance for your health and disease as compared to your inherited genes. Dr. Lipton, author of The Biology of Belief, just released his new book, Spontaneous Evolution.

In this interview, Dr. Lipton discusses “the four myth perceptions of the Apocalypse.” These are “the myths that society has bought, up to now, as actual science. However, over the last two decades or so, leading edge science has shown them to be not only flawed, but entirely false, providing such profoundly different answers that it will undoubtedly change the way we live in the future.”

The third myth is the one that caused me to reflect on my experiences during my current visit to Chicago. Dr. Lipton explains it this way:

Myth # 3: Life is Based on Survival of the Fittest

“The third misperception is the Darwinian belief that life and evolution is based on the survival of the fittest, which is an inherent competition and a struggle for existence that goes on forever.

The new science, however, shows that this is incorrect; that evolution was not based on competition, but rather on cooperation.

This is a profound difference, and it tells us that if we want to evolve as a species, we must stop competing, and begin to recognize our coherence – that we evolved to live as a harmonious community of people, living on this planet as one living “thing” called humanity.”

My friends and family members who live here have schooled me on how to “behave” when I go out on the street. I am not to make eye contact with people or smile, totally foreign behavior to one who comes from a farming community of southern Indiana.

“You are going to have to put aside your humanity, ‘goodwill to all men behavior,’ or you are going to be identifying yourself as not from Chicago. Smiling and being friendly is going to get you robbed, beaten, raped, or shot.” Wow.

I didn’t want to believe that. Isn’t love the highest vibrating energy? I would not believe it…till I watched the behaviors out on the sidewalk, or even more shockingly while driving. The aggressive driving, the honking, the shouting, the cursing, the mad, angry faces, the noise, the rapid motion everywhere every second…wow, how did this all happen?

Shockingly, even the people charged with the responsibility to protect the public display the same behavior. On the 2nd day of my visit, a police officer pulled me over. Stunned, I could not understand why I was being pulled over. I have never witnessed such rude, obnoxious, aggressive behavior in my life as he shouted at me, “YOU cannot drive a tinted window in Chicago!” There is no other word to describe the conversation that ensued except pure, unadulterated harassment. Wow, how did this all happen?

How did we get to the place that in order to survive the city, one must cloak himself/herself in an invisible cold, angry shield in order to survive and not be attacked or killed?

What about Dr. Lipton’s teachings: “… if we want to evolve as a species, we must stop competing, and begin to recognize our coherence – that we evolved to live as a harmonious community of people.”

At the moment, I don’t know how to go about healing such a huge gaping wound. It seems overwhelming at first glance.

How do we do it? I do believe love is the answer. Perhaps we can pull together as a community of people, send love and blessings in our daily prayers to help heal the shattered cultures in which so many people in the world find themselves existing.

The survival of humanity depends upon it.
