"Make the Most of Now"

Tags: ,

Yesterday at our church study group we watched a recorded program by Richard Maraj titled “The Time of Your Life.” He opened his presentation with the following quote, “The way you spend your time is the way you spend your life. How do you spend your time?” My husband, Dave, always prepares a weekly poem to share with the group as a way of “opening” our meeting. Interesting the message he was inspired to share – goes right along with the message of the program we watched…

As I bathe in dawn’s first morning light,

I feel cleansed from demons of the night.

For the end of darkness is the beginning of light;

As is the end of despair and the beginning of hope;

As is the end of loneliness and the beginning of a new friend;

As is the end of tears and the beginning of a smile.

For with every long journey,

We must complete each mile.

Every step is a victory within itself.

Horizons can be elusive to the eye,

For it is the in-between from birth and when we die

That should be savored and sipped like a fine wine.

Do you eat on the run, or have you learned to dine?

Do you stop and feel life’s breath in your lungs,

Or do you taste life without your tongue?

Today I vow to worship this morning’s first rays

And take time to appreciate at the end of the day

The gift of breath, the gift of taste, the gift of sight,

Most important, the gift of inner Light.

Maraj made three points: 1) How do you spend your time? He spoke about the need to sit in the silence and listen. “What is your soul calling you to share and experience? Sit and listen to allow your soul to bubble up and express to the world.” 2) Take time to heal the things within you that need to be healed. “Life gets better when you get better.” 3) Take time to live now. “Make the most of now.”

Actually, now is all we have. How we spend our now is how we spend our time, which ends up being our life. How exciting! We have a new opportunity to wake up and become aware, and as Eckhart Tolle says, “Practice the power of now.”

As we begin this day and this week, let us remember the gift we each have…

New

Opportunities…

Wow!
