Ever see a newborn baby calf or pony? If you have, you know that when they are first born, they walk on wobbly legs. It looks as if they are going to fall, but somehow, they make it. Each day they grow a little stronger, and then one day they are seen frolicking in the open fields, happy as a lark.
The first day back to work after the holidays can make you feel like that wobbly calf or pony. How can you possibly make it through this day, much less this cold winter month of January?
What makes you feel so wobbly? First of all, there is the emotional “let-down” of the holidays. Now the silence creeps in following the big crescendo.
Then there is the refrain in the “Twelve Days of Christmas that, instead of “five golden rings,” feels more like “five months of bills.”
Then you notice that extra inner-tube feeling around your mid section that somehow slowly inflated with the overindulgence of holiday foods and goodies.
Once you move past all that, all the talk of New Year’s resolutions bombard you everywhere you go. Gyms are packed. Those same mouth-watering cookies now appear to have poison in them.
Finally, there is the soul searching question, “What will my life bring this next year? What do I want to do? What are my dreams and aspirations?”
Ahh, listen quietly, and you will hear the whisper of new beginnings, a fresh start that comes by plowing past all the previous adversity to peek at you from the other side.
A dear friend recently told me about a wonderful four-CD set by Wayne Dyer and Marianne Williamson titled “Advancing Your Spirit.” One of the recommended exercises on the CD seems so appropriate for this time of year.
The recommendation is to spend at least five minutes in the morning upon first awakening being totally quiet, clearing your mind. Ask your inner being to guide you with what is most beneficial for you today. Ask to be open, and listen to the guidance that follows.
The guidance may come then, or it may come later in the day. If you center yourself and listen, it will come. What secrets does your inner self have to tell you?
Peering out my kitchen window this morning, there seemed to be magical enactment of encouragement, a message of hope, from Mother Nature. The frosty sub-zero temperature had caused the condensation in the air to freeze. The result? Outstandingly beautiful glitter filled the air as the sun’s first rays shined its beams upon the tiny condensation.
The first Monday after the holidays is like that. The air feels so cold, so frigid, yet, there is the sun showing us there is a way to sparkle and shine and bring new magic to a brand new year.
Here is confirmation that you will make it through these wobbly-legged days. Soon you too will be galloping in the open fields, taking in the magic that life has to offer as you make your way into this brand new year.
