Hormone Evaluation Results

Tags: , ,

Some weeks ago I wrote an article about the Canary Club (www.canaryclub.org) and their home hormone test kits.  I decided I would like to evaluate their services myself , so I ordered the complete test kit: Estradiol, Progesterone, Progesterone/Estradiol ratio, Testosterone, DHEA, Cortisol x 4, Free T4, Free T3, TSH, TPO, and Vitamin D…D2, D3, and Total.  The cost for my kit was $254, a great price in comparison to what I have previously paid for the same lab work.

I received my results a week ago and made an appointment for this morning with a local Naturopathy Doctor for evaluation and follow up.  In preparation for my visit, I have just now read every word on my report.  To begin with, there are two points I’d like to make.  1)  I have my own results so that I can review them prior to my visit, and 2) the report is extremely thorough and explanatory.

Most of the time lab results are only given to the doctor.  It is then up to the doctor and your own persuasiveness to determine if you, the patient and owner of the lab values, get to see the results, much less have a copy.  In this case I received my own results, mailed to my home.  Having the report has given me the opportunity and time to thoroughly review the findings so that I can understand them and formulate my questions in preparation for my doctor’s appointment.

How many times do you get caught off guard at the doctor’s office when you hear things for the first time?  First of all, the doctor’s time is so limited.  There isn’t time to ponder and think things through.  Then when you get home, do you find that you can’t always remember everything the doctor said?  Do you think of all the things you wish you had thought to ask?  The thorough color report, charts, graphs, and explanation of results from the ZRT Laboratory eliminate all of those issues.

I received a five page report.  The first page lists the tests, the normal ranges, and my lab values.  Charts at the bottom of the page graph where my values fall in comparison to the norm.  The second page of the report gives a thorough explanation of Observed Reference Ranges.  The third page is a color coded graph of the symptoms I had reported on the questionnaire that I had submitted.  The bottom of this page correlates and graphs my reported symptoms with the lab values.  The final two pages detail a thorough explanation for each lab value that was out of the normal range…signs and symptoms, reasons why they might be out of range, associated problems and concerns, etc.  Also included with my results, a four page “Understanding Your Hormone Test Results” explains each section of the test report.

If you do not have a personal physician, you are also given an option to make an appointment with the Medical Advisor of the Canary Club, Dr. Richard L. Shames, renowned author of Thyroid Power and Feeling Fat, Fuzzy, or Frazzled.

Once again, I must express my appreciation to the Canary Club co-founders, Lynn Larkin and Judith Seton, Dr. Shames, and the ZRT Laboratory for their united efforts to make high quality, affordable home testing available to the public.  Their efforts allow you and me to become knowledgeable, responsible partners in our quest for optimum health and vibrant living.

    Hi Rosie,

CanaryCluborg has received hundreds, maybe thousands of thank you notes and letters of appreciation, but this is the most gracious and through communication, I think, I have ever had the pleasure to read. It is wonderful to know that you are engaged in doing exactly what we hope for all of us, taking on our own health care. Making sure you get what you need to be well.

It seems practitioners are so rushed and everything to do with health care, at least in the United States, is so wildly expensive that it is now imperative that we educate ourselves; that WE understand what is going on in our bodies, so we can be in partnership with our practitioners. We can no longer assume that others will make us well. I don’t think that ever really worked but certainly now the medial system is overwhelmed and doctors simply can’t respond effectively to all of our needs.

One of the reasons we keep the Canary Club test prices so low is to make testing affordable to as many people as possible. We are committed to educate, support and empower people, whose hormone health has been compromised. We are delighted to know the Canary Club has been a support for you. Stay well and keep writing.
    Judith and Lynn

Once again, being new to this blog thing, I emailed with Lynn back and forth and failed to “approve” her message. By now everyone has probably read my articles and know that I have personally experienced the testing offered by the Canacry Club, http://www.canaryclub.org. and highly recommend and support what they are doing to provide affordable testing and health information to the world. Thanks for all you do, Lynn and Judith!!
