From Today's "Library of Wisdom"

Two geese loudly cried out messages of love to one another as their splashing created multiple ripples in the stripper pit lake far below the hill. Suzie and Riley didn’t even notice. They were focused on one sole objective: convincing me to take them for a walk.

Lucky for them I had just pulled my Doreen Virtue daily angel card which said, “Soon enough, you will be called into action to apply your knowledge in useful ways. When that happens, you will be very busy and work very hard. So, enjoy the present moments of ambiguity and rest. Allow yourself to be an empty vessel into which Heaven pours the contents of its library of wisdom.” Heeding the message, I decided I would take a nature hike before firing up the manuscript editing process again today.

As I pulled the sleeves down over my frozen fingers on this early morn filled with gray skies, I was consumed with the thought, Winter has been relentless this year. . . it simply won’t give up. We could all be students of its teaching . . . never, never, ever give up.

Within a half hour the school bus made its way along the winding country road. As I waved to the driver, I soon became lost in thought about the significance of that school bus driver.  Does she know how important she is to those children, lined up in the seats behind her? Is she aware of how her early morning greeting can help to make or break those little lives today? Does she have any idea the significance of the warmth of her eyes pressing into those little hearts? Does she know that long into the future10, 40, 70 years from this datethese little souls will remember her kind smile and cheery words as she opens the door, welcoming them in to begin yet another day?

The sight and sound of an old truck with a loud muffler topping the hill jarred me from my thoughts. My first response was to be on guard, since there was not a single soul around.  I relaxed when I realized this was the man who stopped his truck alongside me a few months ago to tell me he had just seen a deer with antlers around the bend . . . if I hurried, I might catch sight of it. We exchanged a wave, and soon, once again, the sounds of the birds replaced the engine’s roar.

Way off in the distance a trash truck collected garbage, stopping at one house and then another. The connecting country road displayed evidence that someone had recently stripped it in preparation for repair. The sound of heavy equipment off in the distance confirmed that the workers were up early, once again continuing their task.

I pondered, Does the man driving to work, the garbage collector, and the road repair crew know how important they are?  There is simply no such thing as a “Justa.”  I am justa housekeeper, or justa teacher, or justa mailman.  Every single soul is important.

Suddenly I found myself reflecting on the story Dr. David Hawkins conveyed in “The Discovery.” He advised that we will know when we are enlightened . . . when we step over the beetle lying on his back, or better yet, when we stop to turn him over.  The frightened little beetle with his feet flailing in the air is just as important as we are.  His life is just as important to him.

Could it be that the lesson from Heaven’s library of wisdom today is that all of life is important?  Might it serve us well to let this knowingthat everyone and everything is importantwash over us as we travel down today’s path?

Is it a coincidence that my son sent me the following text message at this very instant, just as I was concluding today’s article?  “If nothing else about this job, I am glad some of these students get me when they call in.  You can hear how much a difference it makes for a person, who is struggling to make it, to hear that someone understands and that someone cares.  It’s empowering to give someone their strength back.”
