A friend recently made some very direct comments that made me stop and take notice. He commented that all the “new age thinkers” have to go “find themselves.” “They have to f-i-i -i-i-nd themselves,” he emphacized.
“I’ll tell you how you find yourself. Stop all the crap, all the scurrying around, all the emails, the phone calls, the blogs, the text messages – just stop all that stuff and allow. Fill your day with all that crap and no wonder you can’t find yourself. Ask yourself if all the things on your daily list help another person. If they don’t, don’t do it.”
Hmm, interesting. I made a commitment to re-look at everything on my daily “list.” What’s on your list?
Then this morning I read an article examining the old saying, “Winners never quit, and quitters never win.” Master Results Coach Sean Smith was quoted as saying, “But in reality, your success is dependent upon you QUITTING. Think about how many habits are not serving you in your quest for your goals and dreams.”
Maybe some of those things on your “list”?
Listen to some of the other points offered by Smith:
- Do you need to hold on to those unproductive and ineffective habits, or do you need to quit them?
- Do you need to hold on to your fears, or do you need to quit them?
- It’s time for you to become a QUITTER. And be proud of your quitting. It’s empowering and liberating. Let go of all the things holding you back, both internally and externally.
- In other words…STOP the SABOTAGE!
- Quit settling for a life of less.
- Quit listening to your negative head-talk.
- Quit being victimized by your thoughts and emotions.
- Quit tolerating your obstacles.
- Quit fighting for your limitations.
- Quit playing small!
So, these two guys have given us some in-your-face words of advice. Are you going to act on it?
Perhaps another appropriate piece to comment on is our old friend procrastination. As Dawson Trotman so aptly stated, “The greatest amount of wasted time is the time not getting started.”
Martin Luther said it this way: “How soon not now, becomes never.”
From Higher Awareness:
“Procrastination seriously drains our energy and our morale. What remains undone nags at us.
What are you avoiding? Make a list of items and then review each one. Does it really need to be done? After you’ve reviewed your list, prioritize it and start one task today.”
Well, is today the day to start “finding yourself”?
As the old Chinese proverb says, “Talk does not cook rice.”
