The Greater Good

As I look back over the past couple of weeks, I have to wonder just what exactly was all that about? Two weeks ago I was a hard driving locomotive. I was determined to get my manuscript completed and then launch into learning how to skype, create mp3 files and video emails, all associated with my writing project. Despite my determined, high driving intentions, nothing worked out as I intended. In fact, impediments seemed to come out of the blue to put on the brakes…odd impediments such as an ice storm that knocked out our power for a week and a bad cold that wiped out some great days while visiting in Florida.

Yesterday (by coincidence?) the topic at our church service was about things not working the way we want them to. The speaker said “Let go of the idea of what is good, so you can open up to embrace the greater good. Go with the flow of God’s goodness.” Hmm, did I miss the greater good? Perhaps I wasn’t paying attention and that’s why I kept getting one nudge after the other these past two weeks? Can you relate?

Jerry and Esther Hicks constantly teach us to quit trying to swim upstream, to just go with the flow, let go of the oars. I say that affirmation every morning, but why is it so hard to do? Logically it makes sense. It takes a whole lot more effort to constantly fight to swim upstream, so why does this locomotive continue to do so? I have a dear friend who constantly tells me, “Rosie, everything is perfect just as it is.” Wow, if it is perfect just as it is, I need to give up my locomotive license. How much easier would it be to simply be aware of and enjoy each moment, knowing that it is perfect just as it is?

The speaker closed his presentation yesterday with this prayer, “Let me grow out of my comfort zone…not every greed but every need will be met. Let me move into an understanding of who I am from within. Let me stop trying to figure out my life and instead move into a deeper and greater understanding of who I am as I move into the silence. I can do great things. I can trust in the right outcome of all things.”

Wow, what a great way to begin an absolutely wonderful week! : )
